Raurimu Avenue School Pool Days
Despite unseasonal weather variations and some technical challenges the Sunday community pool days at Raurimu Avenue School proved to be popular though January and February. The young people swimming were supervised by pool life guard Brooke Croft from Whangarei Aquatic Center. Nearly 100 children used these days for refreshing water activity, and many parents took the opportunity to get actively engaged with their children on a swimming afternoon at the local pool.
Community partnerships with Raurimu Avenue School allowed the use of the pool for the community on warm Sunday afternoons. The availability was supported by Community Led Project funding from Whangarei District Council. This funding provided for the life guard supervision to attend to the safety of young people in water and pool water quality was monitored and maintained by both the school and Whangarei Aquatic Center staff.
The sounds of laughter and splashing are a sign of kids having fun. Kids learning water safety and enjoying themselves locally contributes to a connected community.
